2011 Dakar Rally Starts Tomorrow


In this years Dakar Rally raid (or should we say next years :) ) there will be 180 motorcycles, 140 cars, 67 trucks and 32 ATV’s entering the race. Making its start from South Africa (for the third time), the 33rd Dakar Rally officially kicks off on New Year’s Day – tomorrow in Buenos Aires. 2011 edition start will be more difficult and technical with the course going to Victoria, Argentina. KTM’s Cyril Despres is favored in the motorcycle category, after winning the 2010 rally, but he will have to contend with fellow KTM rider Marc Coma and Francisco Lopez Contardo this time. Although the rally isn’t taking place in Africa (as the title would suggest) – the organizers limited the use of GPS – bringing the competition closer to it’s roots.

Photo of the Day: Powerslide by Randy Mamola


The year is 1988. The rider: Randy Mamola. On his Cagiva 500 in the motoGP class, Randy was amazing. The C588 was technological marvel being the first GP bike with sealed rear casing. It also had an aluminum frame and rear swingarm bent. At the Belgium Spa Grand Prix, Cagiva won it’s first podium with the C 588 (Wayne Gardner was the winer). GP bikes of that era were monsters. Packing around 170HP from the two stroke engine, they were notoriously hard to drive. To do a powerdrift – even more so. That is why this picture is so spectacular. Sometimes big motorcycling corporations can think of ways to make nice and emotional moments for their clients. Such is the case with this short movie from BMW, featuring Tiffany Coates riding her BMW R80GS named Thelma. With her trusty machine Tiffany traveled everywhere humanly possible, crossing 5 continents on the way, showing her travel book, scenes from travels and images of different cultures. MissionEVT in high performance Honda CR-Z hybrids


Shown here is the latest collaboration between Honda corporation and Mission Motors. Powering the newest Honda CR-Z Hybrid with it’s MissionEVT, San Francisco based startup helped Honda to finish second in its class, and ninth overall in 25 Hours of Thunderhill endurance race. Honda/Mission CR-Z could have won its class but they had a fuel spilling incident (what an irony) occurred on their scheduled pit stop. Why is Yamaha’s MotoGP Team Without A Title Sponsor?


Global economical crisis is creating a big impact to MotoGP Championships and team Yamaha, who is yet to find their title sponsor for the 2011 season! Despite being the most dominant force in MotoGP since 2008, Yamaha’s factory team still needs to find the replacement, as Fiat stepped out as their main backer. 157mph Motorcycle Crash / Rider Barely Survives


This is what a 157mph do to a bike, if you crash it. A 19-year-old Marcos Calazo was being chased by Arizona state police, when he collided with a lamp post at very high speed. Motorcycle basically disintegrated on impact, throwing Calazo 104 feet in the air before touching the ground. Rider is in critical condition, but somehow managed to survive the crash. Should he recover from injuries, he will face multiple charges including drunk driving. This photo is to remind us what could happen when we ride our motorcycles irresponsibly.

Marco Melandri Right Shoulder Surgery Successful

The launch of the 2011 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R wasn’t the best one by any means. First there was the news that ZX-10R bound for America will have to honor US EPA noise standards, and cut the rev limiter by 750RPM, thus decreasing the power by whole 20HP. This sort of impediment will soon become a common occurrence in the North American markets, with 2011 Kawasaki ZX-10R being the first of many bikes coming to the Land of Free, with different specs than the rest of the World. KTM 125 Duke: A easy fun little bike


Another really cool video for the new KTM 125 Duke . A simple example of how this little bike is easy to ride and give immediate confidence. The message is perhaps not the best for the sixteen-year-olds, that the Duke is so easy to control as soon as you sit on it, but we can’t say anything to the Austrian company as they have full control over their advertising strategies.
