Lorenzo’s first pole of the season / 2011 MotoGP Estoril

Pictures: MotoGP
After the practice weekend where Marco Simoncelli (San Carlo Honda Gresini Team) was dominant, today was the time for qualifications at Estoril, bwin Grande Prémio de Portugal. And the pole position went to a brilliant Jorge Lorenzo (it’s his first of the season), beating Marco Simoncelli by only 0.133 seconds. All of the top 4 riders are packed in 2 tenths of a second … so close! Although Jorge snatched the pole, it would be wrong to write off about Simoncelli, as he was fast the whole weekend, with a consistant form. Dani Pedrosa will start from the third position on the grid, as he finished 0.163 seconds behind Lorenzo and only 0.03 seconds behind Marco. Continue reading →

Rider surviving horrific crash

There is a big debate in US going on for quite some time, weather to allow lane splitting for motorcycles. As far as we know, lane splitting is forbidden for now, but when you see videos like this, you can do anything but wonder why. Highway CCTV captured this horrifying moment when car driver failed to realise there is something more between him and the next car in lane. Zacharie Perez, 25 year old Iraq war veteran was thrown out of his Triumph Daytona 675 when the car smashed into him. He was lucky enough not to be run over by an ongoing traffic, but suffered ruptured spleen and four broken vertebrae. Continue reading →

Adam Raga Enjoying the Silence / International Noise Awareness Day

Adam Raga needs no introduction. The four times Trials World Champion decided to be silent and support the International Noise Awareness Day. Red Bull created this video to celebrate the international day against noise. And what would be the better choice for the bike and this occasion than electric trial bike. Sweet.

Among the streets and woods of El Bierzo, a village in the northern Spain’s Valley of Silence Raga enjoys the sound of nature and taking the opportunity to support the electric mobility: “I really believe this is the path technology must follow: to always try and coexist with the environment”. Prince William’s gift / Ducati Diavel / Royal Wedding

As the Royal Wedding is taking place today, we will use the occasion to talk about the rumors of a certain motorcycle being on Prince William’s gift list. And not just any motorcycle – but a magnificent Ducati Diavel Carbon from Bologna’s factory. It’s already known that Prince W loves bikes – and this rumor might not be a rumor after all! William has another Ducati in his pride possesion – top of the range Ducati 1198SP (costing around £17k). If we would to be royalty, we would probably opt for Desmosedici, but that’s just us. Ducati’s next-gen superbike getting closer / SuperQuadrata

The rumors about the latest Ducati superbike have been circling around the motorcycling web for quite some time. One thing is for certain – Superquadrata is nearing the final stages of the development and it will mark the changing times for high performance bikes coming from Bologna. Obviously – the big deal is the new engine. Rumors says that it’s massively over-square bore and stroke will allow this 1200cc v-twin to rev higher that you would expect from such an engine.  Continue reading →

2011 MotoGP / Ducati Marlboro Team ready for Estoril

Source: Ducati Press

Following the longest break of the entire season, brought about by the postponement of the Motegi GP, the MotoGP series returns to action for the Grand Prix of Portugal. The Ducati Marlboro Team is prepared for a weekend at a track that is at once demanding and full of contrasts. Despite its having the lowest average speed of the series, the Estoril circuit also includes very fast sections, including one of the longest straightaways of the year and Turn 5, which is taken at approximately 200 km/h (124 mph).

The circuit, which winds through the hills seven kilometers from the Atlantic coast, is also known for its variable weather, which often makes track conditions different from one turn to the next. Continue reading →

Bautista fit for battle / 2011 MotoGP Estoril

Another incredible news coming from the MotoGP circus – Suzuki Rizla MotoGP team. 41 days ago, Alvaro Bautista crashed and broke his left femur during the practice in Qatar. Now in Estoril, having been checked by the Chier Medical Officer Dr. Sarmento and passing all the tests, Bautista was deemed fit to return to the MotoGP action!

“I am really pleased I have been given the ok to ride, but I now I must see what it feels like to get on a MotoGP bike. I have done a bit of Supermotard riding and that felt good, but that is nothing like riding the GSV-R. I will see how things go in Friday practice and we will make a decision about the rest of the weekend after that.” Continue reading →

Swedish Transportation Design / Ockelbo Project

Funny enough, Sweden used to have it’s own “KTM-ish” looking brand called Ockelbo (coming from the town with the same name) producing snowmobiles between 1962 and 1989. As the global motorcycling segment is growing larger every year, the Ockelbo consortium came up with an idea to revive the traditional “orange and black” brand. And what better way to get fresh ideas and some publicity then to team up with the first year Transportation Design students from the Umeå Institute of Design, in creating a new and unique visual identity.  Continue reading →
