John Hopkins suffered injured finger when he was competing as a MotoGP wild card entry for Rizla Suzuki at Brno (August 2011). Since then – he underwent 6 procedures on his right ring finger, but the conditions never really improved. After the last visit, both doctor and John consider the “best” option – to amputate the finger to the first knuckle. WARNING: Disturbing Images
Hopkins added : “I went to see my doctor for a progress report and the news was not great. It’s never good news when you have to lose a body part, but this was the best scenario all round because otherwise the situation could’ve dragged on for some time, with not necessarily a better result in the end.
John will need to rest 10 days before he starts with his training. He should be ready for Philip Island testing.
Despite the injury Hopper finished 2nd in the British Superbike Championships – loosing the title by 0.006 seconds in one of the most intense and final races in the last decade.
