2012 Panigale 1199 / Yas Marina Circuit – Abu Dhabi

2012 Ducati Panigale 1199 was launched at Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi. We’re sure you know all the details by now, but it’s not a bad thing to repeat some of them: an amazing 195HP at 10,750rpm and 132Nm of torque from the 1198cc “Superquadro” L-Twin engine. The all-new monocoque chassis and a dry weight of 164kg plus a ton of electronics hidden beneath it’s beautiful red skin: ABS, DTC (Ducati Traction Control), DES (Ducati Electronic Suspension), DQS (Ducati Quick-Shift), EBC (Engine Brake Control) and RbW (Ride-by-Wire). The truly stunning is the fact that all this is packed in such a small package with so much power, and it all working in harmony to bring you the fastest possible way around the track. It’s almost like a Nissan GTR but in motorcycle form.

The 1199 comes in three versions: Panigale, Panigale S and Panigale S Tricolore. The “standard” have 50mm Marzocchi USD fork and a fully adjustable Sachs monoshock. The S and Tricolore S versions have the 43mm Öhlins NIX30 forks, electronically adjustable for rebound and compression, and manually adjustable spring preload. Fully adjustable TTX36 rear shock completes the Öhlins package. With DES the rider can choose from the pre-set Riding Modes or to make one of his own and save it for later.

To stop the beast there are dual 330mm semi-float discs with radial-mount Brembo monoblock M50 four piston calipers – at the front and single 245mm disc with dual-piston caliper at the back. The ABS has three modes: WET, SPORT and RACE, or it can be completely switched off.

The wheels are 17inch on all version, while S and Tricolore S have the three-spoke Marchesini ones. The tire combo: 120/70 ZR17 (front) and 200/55 x ZR17 (rear).

What an amazing bike. We can’t wait to ride it. Check out the gallery for the hi-res photos and the video for the piece of the action.

  1. Nissa GTR has all the power/handling/whatever of a proper supercar… but it lacks the class.
    The Panigale has it! :-)
