Marquez storms back to podium in France

On Saturday, the 20-year-old Repsol Honda Team rookie achieved a second pole position. At the start on Sunday, he was caught out by wheelspin on a damp track and dropped to ninth position, but went on to take advantage of incidents in front of him and passed numerous rivals including Ducati Team’s Andrea Dovizioso.

“It was so difficult, especially in the beginning with that water on the track,” Marquez recalled. “I had only ridden a few laps in the wet, at Jerez. First I made a big mistake with wheelspin at the start, so I’ll take a lot of experience from that! In the beginning I maybe tried to push too much and made many, many mistakes and lost lots of time. Schlesser, Coma and Sonik seal victory in Qatar’s Cross-Country Rally

Poland's Rafal Sonik won the quad category for the second successive year in Qatar.

Frenchman Jean-Louis Schlesser, Spaniard Marc Coma and Pole Rafal Sonik claimed outright victories in their respective car, motorcycle and quad categories of the four-day 2013 Sealine Cross-Country Rally, which finished in southern Qatar on Friday.

The trio held on to their overnight advantages in very different circumstances to clinch the wins after a punishing all-desert route of over 1,500km had tested both man and machine to the limit. Claudio Domenicali named successor to Gabriele Del Torchio as Ducati CEO

Claudio Domenicali, currently General Manager and Member of the Board of Directors at Ducati Motor Holding, has been named as the successor to CEO Gabriele Del Torchio, who will leave the company to take up new professional challenges.

Rupert Stadler, Chairman of the Board of Management of AUDI AG and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Ducati Motor Holding, praised the successful work of Gabriele Del Torchio, who has spent six years at the top of the premium brand: “Del Torchio guided Ducati out of an economically difficult phase, back to a successful growth path and to the top of the worldwide segment of premium performance motorcycles. The much-awaited start to the 2013 campaign came under lights as the Losail International Circuit celebrated its tenth MotoGP event. World Champion Lorenzo aimed to repeat his performance of last year by taking victory from pole position. Márquez’s much-awaited first race would begin from sixth on the grid.

As the lights went out, a scorching start by Dani Pedrosa saw the Repsol Honda Team rider shoot up into second place by Turn 1, hoping to challenge Lorenzo who began to pull away on his Yamaha Factory Racing bike. Sulayem elected to influential motorcycling body

Dr Mohammed Ben Sulayem, President of the Automobile and Touring Club of the UAE, the national motor sport authority, has been elected to the FIM Affiliation Board Committee which has a key role in international motorcycling.
