Video / Shinya Kimura / Motorcycle Mechanic

“In his own words, Shinya Kimura is a motorcycle mechanic. To the rest of the world, Shinya is an artist, building kinetic sculptures that are and very labor intensive, one-of-a-kind, and ultimately utilitarian. Raised in Tokyo, he moved to LA about a decade ago to actually escape his growing fame and to quietly go on with his life as a mechanic. Acclaim has annoyingly still followed him. His bikes are tough, perfectly made machines that are thrilling to ride. In this film, Danielle explores briefly why motorcycles and what makes the work compelling for Shinya, and the feeling he gets while riding. The film is a supplement to the third issue of On Paper Magazine.”

Bikers Café celebrates second birthday!

IMG_8674

From its inception on the 6th of May 2011, Bikers Café was a very daring concept, an innovatively themed one-of-a-kind restaurant, the like of which no one had ever laid eyes upon in the UAE, or the Middle East for that matter. We gently nurtured it and savoured every minute of its progress, and now, on this very day, two years later, we take huge pride in saying that the ground-breaking café is a cheeky two years old. And what better way to celebrate the birthday than to have a big party, with all those customers and fans who’ve been with us all through, and the new ones who’re coming in for the very first time! And so it was yesterday, with a massive turnout of bikers and non-bikers attending the festivity. Continue reading →

The First, Last Race / Official Trailer

Okay, this was shot about four years ago and not that new by any chance. But this is for you who haven’t seen it already.

Hollywood Stuntman, Jeff Jensen, rides the new Ducati Terra Mostro from his home in Malibu, California, to the Pikes Peak Intn’l Hill Climb, races it and then rides it home afterwards. This would be a huge undertaking from any man in his mid-twenties, but, at twice that age, Jeff hasn’t figured that out yet. Explore the mindset of a man that thinks he can still ride a motorcycle 1,400 miles one way, then race it in the Premier Class, on a road with thousand foot cliffs and no guard rails against World Class racers and then turn around and ride it home. Injured Spies to miss Jerez race

spies2_slideshow_169

Still injured from his shoulder-damaging crash of last year’s Malaysian Grand Prix, Spies believed he was well on the road to recovery upon his arrival in Texas for last weekend’s race. He then experienced severe pain – which it has now been revealed is directly connected to his shoulder problem – during the pre-race Warm-Up session.

A statement from his team quoted: “After taking part regularly in the Texan race, in which he finished in 13th position, the American rider was seen by his medical staff, who advised him three consecutive weeks of intense rehab in order to alleviate the strain in his pectorals and back muscles.
