The Radiomir 1940, in both the steel and the red gold versions is also available with the case 42 mm in diameter with the P.999 hand-wound movement, the smallest and thinnest in the wide range of calibres produced by the Officine Panerai manufacture in Neuchâtel.

Visible through the window in the sapphire crystal window which opens on the back, the P.999 has a power reserve of 60 hours and a balance which oscillates at 21,600 alternations/hour (equivalent to 3 Hz). In the red gold version, where the arrises of the bridges are chamfered, smoothed and polished, the active length of the balance spring is adjusted by a swan-neck regulator, while in the steel version it is adjusted by curb pins.

The Radiomir 1940 (PAM00512) and the Radiomir 1940 Oro Rosso (PAM00513) are supplied with a black or brown alligator strap, and they are part of the Historic Collection.

The stock swingarm was ditched in favour of one with large holes cut into it, both for meaner looks and less weight. The clean styling is further complemented by mirror-finish aluminium rims and a seat cover that mimics tobacco leaves! Scroll down for the image gallery.

Built by Eddie Meeks of EAM Studios, Greensboro, NC, the Quantum Leap is less a motorcycle than a proclamation from its creator. The 13″-wide fixed front wheel gets engine power, while the thinner rear wheel handles the steering. Because the front wheel does not turn, Eddie was able to extend the sexy bodywork, which rides atop the tubular frame housing a Patrick Racing V-Twin and shiny handmade components, including a kickstand sculpted from copper-plated steel.

“It runs,” says Simon Solomon, Meeks’ longtime financial partner and owner of the USD 250,000 Quantum Leap, “but in the same way concept cars do.” That is to say, one should run it with caution. “In the four years it took to make,” adds Solomon, “it quickly crossed over from functional motorcycle to a work of art.”

Meeks logged about 2,100 hours on the Quantum Leap, developing a hydraulic steering system for the rear wheel and incorporating other distinctive touches such as front and rear air shocks and nickel and copper body plating—no chrome. Meeks made more than 500 of the bike’s components.

Having opened its doors on January 1, 2013, Sameiros Motors is a brand new company no doubt. But that doesn’t mean they can’t build sweet customs. Crafted by two bike-loving brothers who come from a family of pilots, this ’88 Honda NX Dominator S1 is a tracker unlike most other cafe racer-inspired Dominators. Little from the original bike remains, as the siblings have swapped out most stock items for one-off pieces. The airbox is deleted, while the OEM filter is replaced with a high-flow conical one. Adding to the youthful nature of this custom are the shortened frame, retro flat seat and the ’52 Terrot 100cc-sourced fuel tank. Dubbed “Loose the wheels”, the bike also features wrapped pipes culminating in a Wrenchmonkees “shorty” muffler. Way to go guys! Scroll down for more images of this beautiful machine.

On Saturday, the 20-year-old Repsol Honda Team rookie achieved a second pole position. At the start on Sunday, he was caught out by wheelspin on a damp track and dropped to ninth position, but went on to take advantage of incidents in front of him and passed numerous rivals including Ducati Team’s Andrea Dovizioso.

“It was so difficult, especially in the beginning with that water on the track,” Marquez recalled. “I had only ridden a few laps in the wet, at Jerez. First I made a big mistake with wheelspin at the start, so I’ll take a lot of experience from that! In the beginning I maybe tried to push too much and made many, many mistakes and lost lots of time.

“I took the feeling I had had in the Warm-Up and came back through. I didn’t expect to finish on the podium, if I’m honest, but I was just focussed on my race. I saw Cal was there on the last lap but I said, ‘Okay, after this race the podium is enough!’ These 16 points are so important because this was my first MotoGP™ race in the wet and to start the championship with four podiums in a row is quite important.”

For the first time since Qatar, Marquez is no longer the championship leader. He now sits six points behind today’s race winner and teammate Dani Pedrosa.
