Start of a 2011 MotoGP Pre-season at Sepang

The Malaysian circuit will host the MotoGP class for the first official three-day Test of the year, which starts on Tuesday.

The sound of 800cc MotoGP engines will roar into action again on Tuesday after the winter period, but whilst there may have been a lack of the type of on-track action which satisfies the hunger of enthusiastic fans plenty of unseen hard work has been going on in the factory workshops of the premier class manufacturers. MotoGP / Ben Spies / “Jorge is very fast…”

Ben Spies was the Rookie of the Year for 2010, and we are believing that the American is a true future of MotoGP : 3 AMA Superbike titles behind him, at the age of only 26, is surely for respect. His nickname is “Elbowz” – due to his riding style where his elbows protrude outward. Before his first official test on Sepang track (1-3 February), this is what Ben had to say: Continue reading →

Vyrus 986 M2 Three Price Options: Factory, Replica SL and DIY Kit

The Vyrus 986 M2 was the most popular motorcycle of the Motor Bike Expo 2011, with many roaming around the stand enjoying the craftsmanship of Rodorigo Ascanio. Vyrus 986 is somewhat a futuristic interpretation of a motorcycle, used both on track and on the street. As announced, the new creation will have a triple soul: Factory,Replica SL and Replica Kit. The Factory is obviously the more specialized one that will be sold to various racing teams in Moto2 championship. Being a racing bike, the level of development was pushed to the max, achieving 136HP in 135kg package. A power to weight ratio that exceeds 1 is a great business card. Prices start from € 55,000. Honda CB400SF / Special Edition / JD Market only

These are the latest photos of the Special Edition Four CB400 Super Bol D’Or, which will be (unfortunately) sold only in the Japanese market. Limited to 500 units. The name is derived from the Honda’s victorious past and Franch endurance classic. The risk of overlaping with Europe’s model CB500 is probably the only reason why this bike will never leave Japan. Jakub Smrz / The Fastest / WSBK Portimao Test Day 1

“Whoa, that Castrol Honda does look nice!”

The second session of Portimao WSBK testing is over and here’s a brief recap. “Beer vs. Oil” (check out the bike liveries) would be the shortest description, as Jakub Smrz riding for Team Effenbert-Liberty Racing took first place in the testing. Closely behind is Jonathan Rea riding for Castrol Honda, with Eugene Laverty of Yamaha World Superbike Team, in third place. We are still expecting more from the likes of Carlos Checa (who fell in first session) and Marco Melandri, who is struggling at the back of the pack. Continue reading →

Rossi Shoulder Test / Ducati 1198 / Misano

Because of the MoteGP winter testing ban, Rossi had to take couple laps on a WSBK-spec 2011 Ducati Superbike 1198SP in order to test his fitness levels and shoulder condition. All this happened at the Misano track, Italy, just ahead of the official MotoGP test scheduled for Sepang next month. Rossi’s fitness is a big unknown for Ducati, as the race team is dependent on his inputs at Sepang to further develop GP11 bike, and other Desmosedici’s on the grid in 2011 (Hector Barbera).  Continue reading →

WTF of the Day: Scale Running Harley Panhead Engine

For this time we have something special. A Harley Davidson Panhead engine, build to scale – and running! We don’t know why people do this kind of things a how do they come up with “2/5ths” of the size. That’s 40% for you more comfortable with percentages, and that’s the number that this engine have been scaled to. All in all, top end was patterned after photos taken from e-bay of Harley parts for sale. Oil system was built using Harley manual. Crankcase is split in three sections for ease of machining. The ignition is solid state and Ron Colonna-builder used a GM coil which fires the two plugs simultaneously. Timing is advanced and retarded with the timer body. Two rotating magnets fire a Hall effect device at the proper times as per full sized points. No casting used. Ignition: Spark. Bore: 1 5/16 in. Stroke: 1 1/2 in.The engine is large enough to produce that lovely V-twin sound. Crazy… Continue reading →

Blitz Crew in Action / Riding September / HUSH

We introduced Blitz Motorcycles some time back, with their blacked-out BMW R60/2 Great Escape. A group of three buddies from Paris, sharing the same passion towards old, vintage and custom motorcycles. Here’s the short list of bikes they customized so far: old Harley 750 XR, Kawasaki W650, Triumph, BMW, Yamaha 125 and 250. Beside their day-to-day jobs, they work after hours, inspired by the custom scenes from around the World, mostly Japan and Australia. They work on bikes they like, for friends and in most cases on tinny budgets. But when they finish – they get to ride those beauties. And it’s all about riding… Continue reading →
