Moments: Dakar 2011 / Stage 8 / Marc Coma SS triumph

A past master in three-way battles for the title, Marc Coma triumphed in Copiapo to pick up his third special stage this year, consolidating his position as race leader a little further. Carlos Sainz, the leader since the first stage of the Personal Dakar Argentina Chile, lost his place to Nasser Al-Attiyah in the last five kilometres of the stage. Menacing ELECTRIC SuperBike by SWIGZ / Onboard Video


Well, this is something else. Electric bikes are coming in fast, people! Be sure to check this video out – showing Chip Yates, riding electric superbike designed entirely by himself (and his team), racing against 1liter gasoline powered bikes. If you would want to describe the way this bike rides, it would go like this: freakishly top-heavy, very hard to drop in the corners, but monstrous low-to-mid range torque and seriously seriously fast! WSBK Testing Starts this Week


With less than two months to go before the start of the new Superbike World Championship season, over the coming weeks the 2011 teams and riders will be making the most of the limited time available to conclude their test schedule and get ready for the opening round of the season in Australia. As per tradition, the first collective appearance of the year for Superbike will be at the Infront Motor Sports organized test session at the Algarve circuit in Portimao from January 26 to 28. Almost all the top official and privateer teams will be present in Portugal, with the notable exception of BMW Motorrad Motorsport, who have opted to focus their pre-season build-up on Australia, with two sessions at Eastern Creek from January 26-28 and then Phillip Island from January 30 to February 1. Francisco Lopez won a Stage 7 of 2011 Dakar rally with a bike like this.
The Aprilia RXV 4.5 Rally Replica is finally available for private riders, the fantastic twin-cylinder adventure bike. The conversion kit for the enduro RXV is also available. Aprilia riders can count on the assistance of Team Giofil in international rallies.  The image of the fantastic proof accomplished by Francisco López in the Dakar 2010 in Argentina and Chile is still alive. “Chaleco” and his Aprilia RXV 4.5 obtained the third place overall, first among the 450 class, with three incredible stage victories that catapulted on the return of Aprilia in the toughest race of the world. Electric vs. Gas Motorcycles / Beware


Chip Yates and his SWIGZ electric Racing team were competing against the gasoline-powered liter bike v-twins in the WERA Heavy Weight Superbike & Superstock race classes in Fontana, USA. Reports from AutoClub Speedway says that this remarkable electric superbike was hitting 158mph on the banked walls of the track, finishing in impressive 2nd place in the WERA Heavy Weight Superstock class, and had another podium finish (3rd place) in the WERA Heavy Weight Superbike class, racing against KTM RC8 and Ducati 1198 Superbikes. Moments: Dakar 2011 / Stage 7 / Aprilia Fastest

In a shortened 273 km special stage, Chilean rider Francisco Lopez managed – with his Aprilia bike – to achieve best time for the first time this year, which brings him slightly closer to Coma and Despres. It is the third consecutive stage that escapes the two KTM riders…
In the car category, Stéphane Peterhansel had more trouble with flat tires while Orlando Terranova had to withdraw after somersaulting as Guerlain Chicherit had done the day before. Nasser Al-Attiyah gets closer to Sainz after a 10th stage victory in his Dakar career.

Is Honda developing V4 sports bike?


Last month Honda, Japanese giant, trademarked the “RVF” name, sending rumors that Honda is developing 1000cc V4 engine that would be suitable for the new set of rules for in 2012 MotoGP season. In the mean time, Honda can develop it’s own super bike to take on the Italian and German super-exotic bikes, like Ducati and Agusta and BMW. From 2012 rules, team are allowed to compete in MotoGP with production-based engines.

Dragon TT Atila 1000 R Concept bike


This rather “interesting” motorcycle debuted at the 2010 EICMA show, as a product of a collaboration between Spanish designer Dragon TT and Madrid based builder MotoYE. We would say that this Spanish duo is responsible for a “monster”, a cross between motorcycle and a Predator species (with some genes of Wall-E :) ). The base is the  1000cc Yamaha R1 inline-four engine, with 160HP, but bolted onto the chassis of 1990′s Yamaha GTS1000.
