Moments: Dakar 2011 / Stage 6

Copyright: Dakar.com
Since his first appearance on the Dakar, Ruben Faria has won a special each time he has taken part. After losing out on victory on the first stage due to a penalty, Cyril Despres’s water carrier won today’s special, ahead of his countryman Helder Rodrigues. On four wheels, Stephane Peterhansel’s momentum was halted by a series of punctures and he now trails Carlos Sainz by almost 15 minutes in the general standings. A minor revolution shook the truck race with a victory for Ales Loprais, bringing to a close a series of 24 consecutive stage victories by the Kamaz team. Continue reading →

2011 Kawasaki ZX-10R still packs 197 horses

Although your new 2011 Kawasaki would need major overhaul, before you actually got it, this will not affect it’s crazy performance and horsepower numbers, kicking all 197 of them. Kawasaki would say “technical hold”, but we will say parts change, as your Kawasaki would need new camshafts, valve springs and valve retainers in order to function properly even under harshest condition / on the race track (the problem was first discovered on the race track, under full load). The term spring surge surfaced, so what does it mean exactly? Continue reading →

1982 Yamaha Virago XV750 “Reciprocity” by Classified Moto

Photos: Adam Ewing
Can you believe that this bike is Yamaha Virago!? With couple of flaws aside, according to Classified Moto, this bike represents pretty decent base for customization. Some of the earlier models had a monoshock rear end – making them even more versatile. This unique feature meant that you could turn them into a hardtail or a sport bike, or something in between. This particular one was commissioned by Director Sunny Zhao - http://www.dreamsfactory.com — for his feature project “Reciprocity”. Continue reading →

Moments: 2011 Dakar / Stage 5

Copyright: Dakar.com
After tackling the first dunes on the Personal Dakar Argentina Chile, Francisco Lopez thought he had won his fourth stage on the Dakar. But the time taken by Paulo Gonçalves, 4th to finish the special, was modified to take account of the assistance he gave to Olivier Pain, who crashed at the 231 km point. The Portuguese rider picks up his first victory on the Dakar as a result. In the car race, a BMW also won the day, with a 56th special stage victory for Stephane Peterhansel, who is starting to threaten the position of Carlos Sainz, still overall leader. The truck race witnessed a slight change: Chagin lost his first place in the general standings to his lieutenant in the Kamaz team, Firdaus Kabirov. Continue reading →

Hybrid Can-Am Spyder in the works + Video

The new Spyder is on the horizon. But this one is different – not so much in appearance (other than it’s “green” – get it?), – but in the power department. You are looking at the Hybrid version of the famous Can-Am trike, an effort of the Canadian government to boost that country’s automotive research and development. This plug-in version will be powered by 600cc petrol engine (stock comes with Rotax 998cc V-Twin)  linked to a 20kW electric motor sucking juice out of a lithium-ion battery pack. The total range for the plug-in version is expected to be 375 miles, with ability to do 20 miles on electrical power only. The aim is that Can-Am hybrid use 50 percent less gas, and emit 50 percent less CO2.  Continue reading →

Dainese Leathers for Nicky Hayden in 2011

The 2006 MotoGP world champion, Nicky Hayden, will be wearing Dainese leathers in 2011 season. Sticking with AlpineStar for couple of years, Kentucky rider decided to switch to the same brand King Kenny Roberts wore when he won his three world titles.
In all Nicky’s career – he wore only 2 brands of leathers – Joe Rocket (of which he was a partial owner) and AlpineStar. Further to that, his name will be added to the American legends who have worn Dainese leathers.

Moments: 2011 Dakar Rally / Stage 4

Source: Dakar.com
In the duel already being fought by Marc Coma and Cyril Despres, the Catalan took a very slim advantage in the 4th stage of the Personal Dakar Argentina Chile, on a day on which the rally entered Chilean territory. Carlos Sainz today celebrated his 20th special stage victory on the event, but it is merely another episode in his confrontation with Al-Attiyah and Peterhansel. As per usual, on the day of his birthday, Valdimir Chagin gave himself a victory as a present, his third this year. Continue reading →

BMW R60/2 Great Escape by Blitz Motorcycles

This is what happens when people start doing what they like. In a downtown Paris, three friends (Fred Jourden, Hugo and Leo) opened their own garage to work after hours on the bikes they like, getting inspiration from custom bike scenes in Japan and Australia. With virtually no money and lot’s of ideas – they set on to create motorcycles using part in a correct mixture – that no one else tried before them. And they succeeded… proof, this amazing dark/stealth/WWII secret weapon – looking BMW 2 Series from 1963. Continue reading →
