Laverty takes Race 2 win to close on Championship lead
Eugene Laverty (Aprilia Racing Team) has taken revenge over Marco Melandri (BMW Motorrad GoldBet) after first race defeat for the win to achieve a crucial victory in Eni FIM Superbike World Championship Race 2 at Monza. The Irishman grabbed the lead on the penultimate lap and defended the position from a competitive Melandri, who set the fastest lap of the race right before the chequered flag in 1’42.379.
With his 3rd race win of 2013, Laverty equals the same number of victories achieved in the past two seasons to close the gap on the Championship leader Sylvain Guintoli (Aprilia Racing Team) to 13 points, with Tom Sykes 3rd at 18 points from the top.
The Kawasaki Racing Team rider completed the podium ahead of Guintoli, as both riders were part of the 4-way battle that characterised most of the 18-lap race. Continue reading →

MotoGP / Magneti Marelli introduces software upgrade
Following each of the races so far this season in Qatar, Texas and Spain, those using the Magneti Marelli ECU (Electronic Control Unit) have been reporting back to the Italian company to inform of the changes they would like. In line with these requests, the first significant software update was rolled out for the Jerez test on Monday.
“We have improved some things following requests from the teams and the MotoGP™ Director of Technology (Corrado Cecchinelli),” Marco Venturi, Head of Motorsport for Magneti Marelli’s Bologna Site, explains to motogp.com. “This will effect wheelie control and the anti-jerk strategy, which relates to the re-opening of the throttle after the apexes of corners (and should allow for more stable mid-corner ride). Super sweet Honda CB750F from Classified Moto’s John Ryland. Blending classic and modern styling cues and characteristics, the 1980 CB750F gets a new YZF R6-sourced front end, including wheel, fork and controls.
