Rider surviving horrific crash

There is a big debate in US going on for quite some time, weather to allow lane splitting for motorcycles. As far as we know, lane splitting is forbidden for now, but when you see videos like this, you can do anything but wonder why. Highway CCTV captured this horrifying moment when car driver failed to realise there is something more between him and the next car in lane. Zacharie Perez, 25 year old Iraq war veteran was thrown out of his Triumph Daytona 675 when the car smashed into him. He was lucky enough not to be run over by an ongoing traffic, but suffered ruptured spleen and four broken vertebrae.

Mr. Perez himself said that the most important thing that helped him survive this horrifying crash was his helmet (not on the back seat or on his arm, but on his head). So people please wear your helmets! Interesting enough is that driver of the car was both uninsured and unlicensed – we are curious to hear what happened to him.

  1. I don’t see what this has to do with lane splitting. The guy in the car failed to stop and it would not matter what vehicle was in front he would of run into it. The bike rider did not change lanes or do anything that was wrong. The driver behind simply failed to stop.

  2. I’m not sure if I made myself clear, but I was pointing out that if the rider in the video would to do a lane split (go in between the cars) maybe none of this would happen. There was a horrific accident somewhere in US, where guy failed to stop his truck, killing 3 bikers standing in line waiting for traffic light. (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/36040752/ns/us_news-life/). If they were to do lanesplit and go in front the cars (like they do in Italy) maybe it will spare some lives….that’s all

  3. Lane splitting is legal atleast in California:

Unfortunately, probably nothing or very little happened to the uninsured and unlicensed driver, especially if they were in the United States illegally.

  4. We had a coworker the other day get trashed while lane splitting. I only lane split when traffic basically stopped on our busy highways here in Nor Cal.

People are essentially stupid, distracted and for lack of a better term desperate to get home from work so they shift lanes continually thinking that it will get them home quicker and all it really does is create snarled traffic as people hit their brakes and slow down. Couple that with cellphone use and the other stupid people in cages do and it gets ugly on the highway. In rush hour while lane splitting I have rolled past countless cellphone users, texters, people smoking dope, people with bowls of cereal propped up on steering wheels, newspapers, Kindles, books.

All that stuff drives me nuts. So I try to minimize lane splitting and I drive knowing only I am responsible for my safety and that basically everyone else is too busy to be concerned about others.

Be safe out there folks too many good people killed by dumbasses. And cops don’t seem to care I am just a greasy biker.

  5. Accidents happen, and we can’t do much about it. But as you said – lane splitting can be used in some situations – like when traffic is sitting still..
