This* Electric Bike Broke a 100mph Record / IOMTT Zero 2012

The electrics’ done it. Michael Rutter on board the Team Segway Racing MotoCzysz 200hp EP1C electric bike broke the 100mph average speed (per lap) barrier, racing and winning on the Mountain course of the 2012 Isle of Man Tourist Trophy.

The others were not far behind. John McGuinness on Mugens Shinden finished in second place with a 102.215mph (22:08.85) while the other team Segway MotoCzysz rider, Mark Miller, took the final third with the average speed of 101.065mph (22:23.97).

After the race Michael Czysz added:

“The greatest motorcycle riders and manufacturers in history are synonymous with the Isle of Man TT Races and I am so proud to be adding the name Segway Racing MotoCzysz to that list. What the team has achieved today is truly ground-breaking and is the culmination of years of hard work.”

  1. Massimo Bordi, of MV Agusta says, “The only serious application for a car or motorcycle is the hybrid drive. Other than taxis, buses or other forms of city transport, I don’t see electric vehicles as an alternative.”

    How can you honestly say electric bikes are not a serious alternative?
